The final declarations for Day 1 of Royal Ascot are in for Tuesday and what a card we have in store! Ryan Moore has a stellar book of rides and we assess all of their chances below!
Moore’s first ride will be on Charlie Appleby’s outsider First Conquest in the Queen Anne. The 5yo is a Group 3 winner in Meydan but was more than five lengths off Opera Ballo when last seen and he has his work cut out to get involved.
Confucius was narrowly denied at the Curragh on debut, a race that has worked out well with the third bolting up at Cork last month since. He won with authority at Naas next time and has been strong in the betting for this contest since. He can give Ballydoyle a third win in the race in four years.
Mission Central hasn’t done much wrong in winning a pair of Listed sprints at Naas and has an each-way chance, but this is a very tough assignment for a 3yo taking on older horses. He will need to be very smart to win.
The 2,000 Guineas winner Bow Echo and Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Gstaad renew rivalry and it could be a right good match again. However, Gstaad was no match for the former at Newmarket and will need to improve again to challenge him. He does have winning course form which is a plus.
Bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II, Reaching High made history when he became the first Royal runner to be trained by Willie Mullins and he has been off the track since finishing ninth in this race last year but was denied a run on several occasions and went down as an unlucky runner indeed. Fitness has to be taken on trust but Mullins should have him at his very best.
Moore’s final ride is aboard George Boughey’s Survie in the Listed Wolferton Stakes. She isn’t with the yard too long but will have to step up on her remote third in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket last time.
