2 mud-lovers who will relish the ground at Lingfield on Wednesday

Lingfield Park Racecourse

Racing on Wednesday comes from six venues, with Lingfield, Catterick and Yarmouth making up the afternoon action. Fairyhouse, Bath and Kempton take over in the evening and we’ll have horse racing tips for all six meetings.

We might be in July, but mother nature doesn’t seem to care! The ground at Lingfield is currently heavy, with further rain looks set to keep the ground bottomless. You’ll need to be backing mud-lovers at the venue on Wednesday and we’ve found two who will relish conditions.

He’s yet to strike in fourteen career starts, but Jaffathegaffa has only raced on a pair of occasions since joining Gary Moore. Starting off in handicaps off a mark of 61 last September, he’s ten pounds lower now and the softer ground is certainly in his favour.

He’s raced three times on a softer surface, finishing second and third on a pair of occasions. He made his stable debut for Moore at Windsor in June, finishing down the field, but his most recent third at Brighton was promising.

Travelling well into the race, he hinted that his time could be near and he now benefits from Rhys Clutterbuck’s five-pound claim. With all that in mind, he’s an obvious player.

Gaining all three of his turf victories with soft or heavy in the description, it’s fair to say Quanah loves the mud. His most recent win came at Hamilton last June off a mark of 65 and he races off just 61 today for Liam Bailey.

He arrives in good order, having going close in three of his last four runs. That includes a narrow defeat at Ripon two starts ago, where he went down by just half a length off a pound higher. He was last seen at Pontefract, where six furlongs proved a bridge too far.

Travelling well into that contest off the front, he’ll relish a return to his optimum trip of five furlongs. He’s obviously on a dangerous rating and with the weather in his favour, he’s set to run a big race.
