3.15 Fairyhouse – Ilikedwayurthinkin

Gavin Cromwell has his string in electric form and Ilikedwayurthinkin can continue that sequence. He’s not taken to chasing this season and a return to hurdling today is a huge positive for him. He was far from disgraced in last year’s Martin Pipe off a four-pound higher rating and that sort of form entitles him to be bang there. He’ll relish the spring ground and with Simon Torrens’ five-pound claim in mind, he looks extremely overpriced.

3.50 Fairyhouse – Scarpeta

Unsuited by deep ground all season, Scarpeta can show what he’s really capable of back on spring ground here. His most recent fourth behind Beacon Edge, given how poorly he jumped, was an effort that signalled he wasn’t far off his peak. Omitting the Cheltenham Festival means he arrives fresher than most and if he’s able to build on those strong heavy ground performances back on a surface he can appreciate, he’s sure to out-run his lucrative odds.

4.35 Kempton – Al Kout

He has a modest strike-rate, but Al Kout has gone close on numerous occasions since his most recent victory and deserves another day in the sun. He was ahead of Vibrance over course and distance last time and he should be able to grab a soft lead under Martin Dwyer in this smaller field. He’s been drawn well to attack from stall three and he’s previously won at Kempton off a four-pound higher rating than todays. If they allow him to dictate his own terms, they’ll struggle to get by in the closing stages.

5.00 Fairyhouse – Opposites Attract

Sneaking in at the bottom of the handicap, Opposites Attract is a very interesting contender in the Irish Grand National. A novice in this sphere, he went down by just two lengths on debut behind Latest Exhibition off level weights, meeting him off 18-pound better terms today. A strong-travelling sort, he’ll relish a return to a better surface and he’s always shaped like a marathon stayer in the making. An opening handicap mark of 135 looks very generous and he can prove just why in the feature contest.
