2 Wednesday runners for trainer with 40 per cent return at Warwick last season

There’s plenty of racing to look forward too on Wednesday, with six meetings to keep us occupied. Yarmouth, Warwick, Cork, Ayr, Southwell and Kempton are all on the menu and we’ll have horse racing tips from them all.

While looking for interesting statistics for Wednesday’s action, we found one from Warwick. Paul Nicholls sent 10 horses to the venue last season, with four of them returning home as winners. That 40% strike-rate has to be of interest and he has two huge chances on Wednesday.

1.45 Warwick – Secret Potion

Previously trained in France, Secret Potion had some very useful flat form to his name. That includes several good efforts at Listed level and those runs suggest he should be ultra-competitive in a handicap off today’s rating for his top trainer.

He’s run below par on all four of his runs since joining Nicholls, but as previously mentioned, he now goes handicapping off a dangerous rating. He’s also undergone wind surgery since we last saw him and he’s fitted with the tongue-tie and cheekpieces combination. With all those factors in mind, he has to be considered a huge danger.

3.30 Warwick – Fidelio Vallis

His strongest chance, in terms of market expectations, is Fidelio Vallis, and it’s not hard to see why. He’s a highly-promising up-and-coming chaser, arriving on the back of three clear-cut chasing wins. Most recently, he scored on handicap debut at Kempton by just under ten lengths at a canter.

The handicapper has raised him six pounds for that, but he certainly could have been far harsher. He should have plenty more to offer in this sphere and Warwick promises to play to all his strengths. A big summer campaign is in store and he’s a horse to watch.
