Jockey rides in Meydan on Friday then flies home for one Saturday ride at Lingfield 😮 ✈️

Alrajaa and Jim Crowley land a Class 2 Handicap at Lingfield

It has to be hugely interesting that a jockey who had three rides at Meydan on Friday will fly to Britain for just one ride at Lingfield on Saturday. One might think that after a lengthy journey home that Jamie Spencer may put his feet up for a few hours but he is doing no such thing.

Spencer rode three horses on Friday, including finishing third on Bless Him in a handicap there on Friday afternoon, a familiar David Simcock-trained stable star. So, is Spencer riding in a valuable race on Saturday at Lingfield Racecourse? Certainly not – it is just an average run of the mill Class 5 novice stakes race worth very little prize money.

3.10 Lingfield

Trainer by Kevin Ryan, it looks like Spencer could be on his way to Lingfield to ride a winner in the form of Chrysos. This three-year-old son of Medaglia D’Oro was sent off a well backed 10-3 chance on debut over a mile at Newcastle. He travelled powerfully through his race, hit a low of 1.74 in running but couldn’t sustain his effort in the closing stages and finished fourth.

One would assume that this horse will only improve markedly for that effort as the cobwebs have been well and truly blown away now. His biggest danger could be the John Goshen-trained Mizmar but that horse has already had three runs under his belt so Spencer’s mount has much more scope for improvement in his locker.

This may all be hot air but it has to be very interesting that a high profile rider like Spencer, who doesn’t take any ride these days, is willing to put in the effort to ride this one!
