ITV horses for courses: Three track specialists to watch at Goodwood and Newmarket

Newmarket 2000 Guineas

The ITV cameras are back in action on Friday ahead of the first Classics of the season, which take place at Newmarket over the weekend. They will be showing four races from Newmarket and three from Goodwood on Friday. We’ve picked out three horses running in ITV races with proven records at their respective tracks. This can be a significant advantage and the horses in question are therefore worth keeping an eye on. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.15 Goodwood

Spanish Star has won eight times throughout his career and four of those have come here at Goodwood. The heavy going shouldn’t create too many problems for him as he’s won on it before and has two soft ground course and distance victories to his name. Beaten a length here off a 2lb higher mark in August, Patrick Chamings’ nine-year-old can put in a big run once again.

3.50 Goodwood

Dream Composer is a two-time course winner with a further three placed efforts to his name in just seven starts here. His two disappointing efforts so far this season have caused his mark to fall to 88 and he looks very well handicapped on his best form. Whilst the ground is certainly a concern, he might just get away with it in this small field.

4.10 Newmarket

Time Lock is unbeaten in two starts at Newmarket and that includes a dominant victory over this trip in Group 3 company back in September. Harry Charlton’s mare will surely have every chance of coming out on top if producing a similar effort here. The trainer is operating at a 33 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight and that certainly bodes well for her.
