Horses in first time headgear on Monday form an 1187-1 each-way treble

Scrupuleux beats Dark Invander by a short head in the 2m Novice Handicap Chase Worcester 11/6/18

Monday’s racing comes from five meetings, a stellar start to the new week! Ayr, Nottingham, Worcester, Windsor and Ripon are the venues in question and we’ll have horse racing tips for all of them, including a NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 tips.

For some horses, the application of headgear can cause seismic improvement. Headgear like cheekpieces, tongue-ties and blinkers can be the key that unlocks a horses true potential and the connections of these three horses will be hoping that’s the case with their horses. Monday’s first time headgear treble pays 1187-1 and you can find all the analysis below!

He’s yet to show much under rules for Alastair Ralph, but the early money is interesting for Tom O’Roughley. He did win a point to point back in 2019 and his connections reach for both the tongue-tie and cheekpieces for his second handicap start.

He was never dangerous on handicap debut over 2m 7f at Uttoxeter in May, but this combination of new headgear could be the catalyst to sizeable improvement. He’s dropped six pounds in the handicap and it’s ultimately early days for him, so his price of 12-1 needs strong each-way consideration.

He’s unlikely to be one of the yard’s leading lights, but Lelantos could feasibly make progress now he goes handicapping. Nicky Henderson has a 21% strike-rate when fitting his horses with cheekpieces and he’ll be hoping it brings about sizeable improvement for this horse’s handicap debut.

He’s had three hurdling starts thus far, posting his best effort to date when second at Uttoxeter last month. An opening mark of 101 is achievable if he does take another step forward and Ben Ffrench Davis’s seven-pound claim could make all the difference, especially now he’s upped in distance.

7.00 Ripon – Betzone App For Euro Price Boosts Handicap

Previously trained by Richard Hannon, Willa has made a very strong start to life with the Mike Sowersby team. She made her stable debut at Thirsk last month, finishing fifth and ultimately not enjoying the rub of the green. Her next start came at Redcar and having hit the front towards the finish, she was narrowly outbattled in the dying strides.

She’s edged up two pounds for that, but she’s in great heart and the application of the cheekpieces could be what finally gets her over the line. This is her seventeenth racecourse visit and pitched in against plenty of other struggling rivals, it would be disappointing if she didn’t play a leading role in the finish.
