‘He beat a Group 1 winner’ – 40/1, 22/1 and 18/1 Royal Ascot Day 1 outsiders
We’ve all been waiting for Royal Ascot to arrive and it finally has! Tuesday marks Day 1 of the five-day festival and we have seven excellent races to look forward to. Plenty of runners means plenty of each-way opportunities and we have you covered on that front. Here are four outsiders that could be significantly overpriced and dangerously overlooked. We’ll be providing free tips for every Royal Ascot race and our recent form suggests you won’t want to miss out.
2.30 Ascot
Carl Spackler (18/1, bet365) improved quickly as a four-year-old in the US last season, winning four times and twice at Grade 1 level. He earned a third top-level success with a dominant display at Keeneland on his final start for Chad Brown. This is his stable debut and it’s very possible that this isn’t a vintage Queen Anne, so don’t rule him out.
3.05 Ascot
Shaatir (40/1, bet365) finished third on debut at Chepstow last month and the winner has boosted the form by winning under a penalty since. Archie Watson’s colt was entitled to improve for the run and managed to do so, getting off the mark at Lingfield next time. He was well on top that day and deserves his place in the field on that evidence.
3.40 Ascot
Aesterius (33/1/1, bet365) was a smart sprinting juvenile last term and he managed to win a Group 2 over the minimum trip at Doncaster. Not beaten far when fifth in the Norfolk Stakes here, he has a similar profile to 2023 winner Bradsell. A top international jockey has been booked for the ride and he should improve significantly for his last run.
5.35 Ascot
Galen (22/1, bet365) brings a high level of form to the table and may have been dangerously overlooked. This Joseph O’Brien-trained runner won a Group 3 over this trip in April, which is cracking form. He beat subsequent Group 1 winner Jan Brueghel and has to be dangerous with that in mind. Far from disgraced behind Los Angeles after that, the drop in grade provides a good opportunity.
