One of the best jockeys of all time has had a couple of weeks he would like to forget in a hurry. Frankie Dettori had an abysmal Royal Ascot and it could be capped off with him losing his job for John & Thady Gosden. Dettori and John Gosden are set to have a meeting on Friday to discuss his future.
Make no bones about it, there is no arguing that Dettori gave Stradivarius a poor ride at Royal Ascot. The misery was compounded when he got going too late on Saga who finished second in the Britannia, only to then lose on Reach For The Moon, the shortest priced runner of the week after Baaeed.
Whatever happens to Dettori over the weekend, he will be very angry and will be out to prove a point on Saturday. He takes up just one ride at Newmarket Racecourse and the horse has a big chance.
Dettori will get the leg over Lezoo in the Listed Maureen Brittain Memorial Empress Fillies’ Stakes, the third race on the card. This Zoustar filly looked well above average when rattling home to win at Bath when it looked like the bird in front had flown.
She showed a terrific turn of foot on the day and hit a high of 44 in running which just proves the position she had to come from to win.
It is clear that she will enjoy a stiff sprint so the step up to 6f will suit her down to the ground and she is pretty much guaranteed a strong pace to aim at with a couple of confirmed front runners in the race.
