6.15 Newcastle

Be Proud is a quirky individual who needs a race to fall apart in front of him and that’s exactly what happened when scoring over course and distance nine days ago. There should be a decent pace on up top again here and although he is up 5lb, he gets to run in a 0-80 off a mark of 85 so he could be too good for them.

7.00 Dundalk

Atlantic Island ran a big race when sent off a 150-1 chance here at Dundalk in November when third over a mile, beaten by a horse who went on to win again since. The trip was on the short side when again third at the track over 7f but this step up to 1m2f should bring out major improvement and he could be hard to beat.

7.45 Newcastle

Lucinda Russell doesn’t have too many flat horses in her yard but Ballyare is one and he has a right good chance. A dual scorer here over 5f, he ran very well over 6f here last time and drops down in class now. He has a good pilot aboard in Paul Mulrennan and surely must go close.

8.00 Dundalk

In Ecstasy is a progressive three-year-old son of Caravaggio who is related to Galileo through the dam line and he has certainly lived up to his pedigree thus far, winning both starts around this track. He doesn’t do anything fancy but just likes to do enough and we like to see that in a horse as we know there’s more in the tank to come.
