20-1 treble: three horses that will relish soft ground at Newton Abbot on Friday 🐴

Unlike most of the tracks across the country, the official going at Newton Abbot is currently soft. We’ve seen plenty of ground-related non-runners this week but mostly because conditions are too dry. Consequently there are some horses which will love the soft ground that they’ll encounter and we’ve picked out three of them.

1.55 Newton Abbot

Imperial Joe broke his maiden tag at the sixth time of asking last time out at Exeter. He has improved in every one of his three handicap starts which culminated in that victory last time. His last two starts have been on soft and he has finished first and second. The only other time he has run on soft was on debut which was always going to be a big ask. It’s unlikely that he has finished improving and has a great chance of making it two-from-two.

2.30 Newton Abbot

West To The Bridge seems to have been presented with another golden opportunity by the handicapper. He has run up a sequence of a hat-trick of wins and off a mark only 3lb higher than his last win he should go in again. This gelding has had 18 starts on soft ground and has placed in 11 of those starts which includes six wins. He dealt with the soft conditions better than his rivals at Sandown last time and is likely to do so again here.

3.40 Newton Abbot

Magic Dancer is an experienced 10-year-old but has had just five starts on soft ground and has been in the first three in four of those starts. This includes his most recent win at Worcester back in October. He’s now back down to the same rating of 121 which he was on when winning that race. Having only had six chase starts, there could be more to come from this gelding at a trip which he is fairly unexposed over.
