There’s action aplenty on Sunday, with meetings from Hexham, Galway, Aintree, Wexford and Wincanton. Most eyes will be on Aintree, whose season begins with the Grade 2 Old Roan Handicap Chase.

Tizzard goes with Des Flos

Following Colin Tizzard at Aintree has been a profitable venture in the past five seasons. He holds an 18% strike-rate at the venue, with those eleven winners equating to a huge £79.33 profit to level stakes.

He runs four at the venue on Sunday, with Vision Des Flos having excellent claims in the feature Old Roan Handicap Chase. It’s a wide open renewal, but Tizzard’s seven-year-old is ultra-classy at his peak. He was aimed at lofty targets last term and although he was disappointing, he now goes handicapping off an extremely dangerous rating.

He’ll have his ideal conditions and his Aintree record reads 223. Robbie Power continues the partnership and there’s plenty to like about his chances.

The bigger, the better

Winning on three of his sixteen mounts at Hexham in 2020, Sam Coltherd can boast an enormous profit of £34.50 to level stakes. His 19% strike-rate clearly includes some bigger-priced winners and he partners Red Ochre at a tempting price in the Hexham Wall Handicap Chase.

He’s yet to strike in thirteen hurdling starts, but there has plenty of promise amongst the defeats. He was having his first start since March when close-up in fifth at Market Rasen back in September. He’s now three pounds lower and perhaps more crucially, he heads back to Hexham.

He ran twice at the venue in 2018, beaten a neck in a pair of course and distance handicaps. The latter near miss came off sixteen pounds higher and on his first start at the venue since, he has to be deeply respected.
