The king of Wincanton: 112-1 Paul Nicholls treble that the bookies fear 👑

Paul Nicholls

Wincanton is champion trainer Paul Nicholls’ local track and his impressive strike-rate there would make you think the course was part of his training facilities. Nicholls has had 81 winners from 296 runners which equates to a strike-rate of 27 per cent. Stable jockey Harry Cobden has an impressive course record too but when they combine their strike-rate is an astounding 33 per cent. The pair team-up for three rides on Monday and the bookies will be praying they don’t land the treble.

2.20 Wincanton

Birds Of Prey has perhaps struggled with his handicap mark over timber having not won since he was contesting novice hurdles. He now finds himself on a career low mark of 115 which should be much easier to contend with. His run last time out showed some promise as it was a warm contest and he wasn’t beaten by a huge margin. The drop in grade combined with the 4lb lower mark should facilitate a good run from this gelding and he should go close.

Glajou can somewhat flatter to deceive at times but the handicapper is beginning to relent. He now finds himself on a mark which is 1lb lower than his last winning one. That victory came at Southwell in 2020 in similar conditions to what he faces here. He should be capable of winning off this mark in ground conditions which he has won on in the past.

3.30 Wincanton

Petrossian was thought highly enough of to be entered in some of the big Cheltenham Festival novice hurdles so absolutely has to be considered here. This gelding looked like a future star when sauntering home in a Newbury bumper last season. He’s only been seen once this season and connections were probably disappointed as he finished only second. The winner of that race has since scored again and looks useful. With the benefit of that experience he should have a great chance of breaking the maiden tag.
