The middle of the five days of Royal Ascot, where the feature is the Ascot Gold Cup, the marquee race of the entire meeting. It’s Ladies Day so expect the fashion to be as spectacular as the equine action.
The sun is shining which is a blessing for those lucky enough to be in attendance but there might be changes in the going later in the day as a result. We have runner by runner guides and selections for every race today in our Royal Ascot Tips.
The Ribblesdale Stakes is the Royal Ascot equivalent of the Oaks and it’s Epsom form that will be put to the test this afternoon with our NAP of the day. Placed at Epsom, that looks the strongest line of form on offer today, with her breeding suggesting that this ground will see her in an even better light.
Her yard has won this three times in the last five years, signalling their intent by supplementing her for the contest last week. Circus Maximus won the St James’s Palace Stakes on Tuesday having been added late, Ballydoyle able to repeat the dose here with this filly.
Another for Ballydoyle and in a race where they run four, they will have high hopes of at least hitting the frame with a couple in the final contest of the day. Eminence has taken time to grow into his huge frame but has shown much more this season.
Wayne Lordan wasn’t far away on Barbados (another who looked down the Ballydoyle pecking order) yesterday nor on Fairyland on Tuesday. He probably won’t want the ground to dry out too much during the afternoon but it would be no surprise to see him outrun his price.
The straight course at Ascot has been a very happy stomping ground for Jamie Spencer in his career, failing by just a nose to add another Royal Hunt Cup to his resume on Clon Coulis yesterday afternoon.
He has ridden the winner of the Britannia four times in the last sixteen years, including 2016 and 2017. Dark Vision carries topweight which won’t be easy but he has the master of the straight mile on his back
Eminence and Dark Vision in an each way double pays a massive 1188/1 which would more than pay for the Ladies Day outfit if both cross the line in front!
