7.40pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 27/09/2017

7.40pm Kempton tips for Wednesday’s Class 5 contest raced over 1m for horses aged between three and five. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: Cape To Cuba was bitterly disappointing last time out and she’s worth taking on at a short price. PSYCHOTIC is an interesting opponent having shown ability in two good maidens and the booking of Jim Crowley suggests that he’s ready to win. Starboard Watch can do the best of the rest.

1 CAPTAIN COCKLE – Beaten 16 lengths on debut in a Class 4 maiden last month, finishing second last. He’s likely to start at a huge price again today, and with good reason. Best watched until he’s qualified for handicaps.

2 PSYCHOTIC – Has shown clear ability in two maidens to date at Salisbury and Goodwood earlier this month. Jim Crowley takes over in the saddle today which is a clear positive and he should improve again. However, the step down in trip is slightly surprising.

3 RIVERS OF ASIA – Has failed to win in 12 starts and he was beaten 19 1/2 lengths on his most recent run which was his first for the yard. He’s likely to slip down the weights further and this run may just help him get there so he can only be watched today.

4 COMPTON BRAVE – Shown virtually no ability in five starts for this yard and it would be a major surprise to see him win this. He was beaten ten lengths in a Yarmouth handicap last time out and the step up in trip is unlikely to bring out the required improvement.

5 FIRE WHIRL – Beaten 19 1/2 lengths in a Chelmsford maiden earlier this month, showing virtually nothing to get excited about. The step back up in trip doesn’t look as if it will suit based on breeding and he’s one for handicaps down the line. Best watched.

6 MY ILLUSIONIST – Maiden from six starts, although he wasn’t far away in a Wolverhampton maiden earlier this summer. He’s not produced his best performances over a mile and there’s a question mark over his stamina over this trip, so he could be worth opposing in this.

7 PETE STUYVESANT – Sent off 50/1 on debut at Kempton earlier this month and he finished second last, beaten 13 1/2 lengths. This yard don’t have many maiden runners and he’s best watched until sent handicapping. Oisin Murphy remains in the saddle.

8 METTE – Mark Usher’s runner is up against it today on these terms now switched back into maiden company. She was beaten 137 lengths in a Windsor handicap last time out which followed a 47 length defeat previous to that and she’s not improving. Opposed today.

9 CAPE TO CUBA – Has shown more than enough ability to suggest that she’s capable of success in this company. She was beaten a head in a Doncaster maiden earlier this season and subsequently went close again at Nottingham. Her last start was disappointing, but she’s evidently up to winning a race such as this.

10 LADAKHI – Racecourse debutante out of a mare that failed to break her maiden in 13 attempts. The yard don’t have a great strike rate with their maiden runners and they have only sent out one winner from their last 14 runners, so others make more appeal in this.

11 MINI MORUGA – Finished ninth of ten, beaten 25 lengths in a Brighton maiden on racecourse debut. That was a particularly weak race so it was disappointing that Gary Moore’s runner couldn’t finish higher up the field; it could be the same story today.

12 SAHARAN STAR – Dam was a maiden from six starts over similar trips to this and she’s not bred to be that smart. She’s best watched on debut for a yard that has a poor 6% strike rate at Kempton, with nicer sorts in opposition.

13 STARBOARD WATCH – Posted her best performance to date with a third place effort in a small field maiden last time out. That isn’t the strongest bit of form, but it’s an improvement on what she has shown. She has place claims in this for a yard that can send out a maiden winner.
