A field of nine go to post for the forth race of the day at Wolverhampton on Thursday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Although still a maiden after twenty-one starts, FITZWILLIAM‘s return at Brighton gave the impression better could be expected for that run and he’s surely up to winning a race at this level off such a basement mark. He finished fifth on return and he should appreciate the drop back in trip, with Silvestre De Sousa taking the ride another obvious plus. His main rival looks to be Lord Murphy, whose up 5lb for the latest of his C&D wins.

1 LORD MURPHY – Dual winner over C&D this year for Daniel Loughnane, taking the second of those 33 days ago when powering clear despite being keen early on. He’s been raised a further 5lb as a result but if settling better with Adam Kirby taking the ride, he could have enough improvement left in him to deflect this penalty to take a third career success. The yard recently had a winner and if takes another step forward he’s likely to go close.

2 CARRIBEAN SPRING – Got off the mark at the fourteenth attempt when winning over C&D on his penultimate start, leading on the post under a brilliant ride from Jane Elliott despite being wide for a good portion of the contest. He’s been raised 6lb as a result and returned to the turf on his latest start, well beaten but much more can be expected of him now he returns to the synthetic surfaces for George Margarson. Jane Elliott takes off 7lb and he’s a likely big player.

3 MUTHRAAB ALDAAR – C&D winner back in March 2016 in maiden company but he has failed to win in seven subsequent starts and needs more if he’s to be taking this. He has been more encouraging the last twice, finishing second at Kempton on his penultimate start before being caught too far back when coming home with a rattle for fifth at Lingfield when last seen. He is now a pound lower and if closer to the pace this time he’d have to be considered for placings over a C&D he is proven over.

4 THE DUKKERER – Scrambled home over C&D on her penultimate start and was raised 5lb as a result, which was enough to find her out back on turf when well beaten in the end at Wetherby over further. She’s proven to be effective on the grass and over that distance so that cannot be an excuse so perhaps this mark may just be beyond her at this stage of her career. Possible place contender back down in trip but looks vulnerable for win purposes.

5 GREY DESTINY – Won here over seven furlongs four starts ago and ran his best race subsequently on his latest start when second at Newcastle over the mile nine days ago. He came home gallantly to just be denied late on by a game winner and he remains on the same mark, which gives him definite possibilities if this doesn’t come too soon. Cam Hardie takes the ride and he looks likely to go close again with conditions to suit.

6 KAFEEL – Well treated on the best of his old form but has been poor in the main for a while now, showing a shade more on stable debut for Gary Moore thirty days ago when forth at Brighton. He’s been lowered a further two pounds which makes him interesting as he’s entitled to come on for that run and Tom Queally taking the ride adds to the intrigue for this one. Should be watched carefully in the market and could play a leading role.

7 OUTLAW TORN – Has his moments but is usually a midfield finisher these days for Richard Guest, with his latest third at Wetherby on turf his best effort for a while, still beaten around three lengths by the winner. He remains on the same mark which means he’s only a pound above his last winning mark, but after 144 career starts improvement is unlikely to be forth coming. Possible place contender back on the all weather but on balance others are more likely.

8 FITZWILLIAM – Remains a maiden after 21 starts for Mick Channon but showed enough on seasonal debut at Brighton to suggest he was more than capable of winning a race at this level. In that run he made good headway before finding little up the straight, hinting that a step back in trip would be very much in his favour this time around with Silverstre De Sousa taking over in the plate.

9 CROSSLEY – Well beaten on his last four starts and his stable debut for Neville Bucroft after a lengthy absence resulted in another very heavy defeat. That made it no wins from twenty starts and it’s hard to get in any way excited about his chances under Kieran Schofield, who looks to have an impossible task. Avoided.
