3.55pm Newmarket Tips & Bettign Preview 13/04/2016

IN SUMMARY: A small but very select field vie for this important prize. We respect every runner but the going could yet be the key and SCRUTINEER (7/1) is both well weighted and likely to be suited by the softer surface. His form is not the best but that may not be as relevant as normal on the softer turf today.

1 ADVENTUROUS (8/1)– Seems certain to try and make the most of his fitness advantage having finished a decent enough second to the odds on Ennaadd at Kempton last time out. Mark Johnston has his horses in good form but he ought to find one or two have a bit too much class for him here.

2 IBN MALIK (10/3)–  A very interesting contender who was highly thought of at the Charlie Hills yard as a juvenile and ran well behind the likes of Galileo Gold, Emotionless, and Gifted Master in Group races last Autumn. Ought to make up in to an even better three-year-old and looked to be learning with his racing, making him a major contender here. Has been gelded and sure to run well, but we note the stable are short of recent winners.

3 KACHY (7/2) – Unbeaten after two races at Chester and Goodwood, though both were over five furlongs so this represents a serious step up in trip. Breeding suggests his stamina could be stretched in a truly run race but there is no guarantee of that today, and he may yet be able to use his pace to good effect.

4 RAUCOUS (5/2) – Forecast favourite for the ever shrewd William Haggas, and has very useful form. Won his first two races and then placed in the Gimcrack Stakes and the Mill Reef so has class on his side but may be better on slightly quicker ground than seems likely today.

5 GREAT PAGE (16/1)– Three wins form ten races to date include a Group Three at Deauville over this trip but disappointed a little behind Haalick at Lingfield on his return in early March. He was a big price that day so may have needed the run, or he might not have trained on, and for now we can’t suggest taking that risk.

6 SCRUTINEER (7/1)– Seems better than the bare form suggests after he rounded off his juvenile career with a last of eight in the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud last November. Two previous wide margin wins on softer going make him a serious player here if the going remains in his favour, and seems well handicapped in the circumstances.
