Eight runners have been declared for the Listed event over 1m on Wednesday’s Sandown card. Read the horse-by-horse race preview for our betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: There are some likely improvers in this line-up, so this may not be as straightforward for YORKER as a quick glance at the BHA ratings might suggest. However, the William Haggas-trained 7yo was successful three times at the highest level in South Africa and, following an absence of over two years, proved a huge chunk of his ability remains when placed in Group company at York last month. Some might be concerned about the so-called “bounce” factor but there is no strong urge to oppose him today. Arcanada has been promoted to this grade after winning a hot handicap and may provide the biggest threat but Mustashry is also making very good progress and Dragon Mall has already proved he can get competitive at this sort of level.

1 Early Morning – Useful handicapper who held on well to win the Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot (good to firm) last month and ran very well in defeat back there on latest outing; evidently in good nick but will need to find something extra to pose a significant threat in this company.

2 Muwaary – Stayed on strongly for third in York Listed event (1m, good to soft) after long absence in June but not quite in same form over 7f on last couple of outings; might fare better over the stiff 1m here and ought to be fine on the ground but others have more potential.

3 Yorker – Triple Grade 1 winner when trained in South Africa and, following long absence, made very pleasing stable/British debut when runner-up in Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York (1m1f, good) last month; will be very hard to beat if matching that performance here; tongue-tie now added.

4 Arcanada – Progressive handicapper who gained third win of the season when landing valuable contest at the York Ebor meeting (1m, good) last month; moves into Pattern company for the first time today and no surprise if he makes a splash at this level at some stage.

5 Dragon Mall – Has only one win to his name after seven starts but has shown some very useful form and met traffic when fourth in a Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood (1m, good to firm) on his latest outing; good each-way claims if in similar form here and it’s possible we are yet to see the best of him.

6 Mustashry – Low-mileage 3yo who bagged a valuable handicap at Ascot (1m, good to firm) in July and bettered that performance when second of 20 at the York Ebor meeting (1m, good to firm) last month; likely to make further progress and can’t be ignored.

7 Starlit Cantata – Exposed as a fairly useful handicapper at best and has done all her winning on the AW; out of her depth in this company.

8 Quebee – Comes here after winning three of her last four handicaps, the most recent a Class 3 event at Goodwood (1m1f, good to firm) last month; got the job done in good style that day and is clearly heading in the right direction but has much more on her plate here.

myracing Forecast Prices: 5/4 Yorker, 4/1 Mustashry, 11/2 Dragon Mall, 7/1 Muwaary, Arcanada, 14/1 Early Morning, 20/1 Quebee, 100/1 Starlit Cantata
