Twelve runners going to post for this mile handicap chasing a first prize of just under £4,000. Our expert tip and runner by runner preview are below.

IN SUMMARY: COOPERESS is a huge price on her old form, running her best race this season on soft ground at Chepstow. She was staying on with purpose at the end of that seven furlong trip so this mile on similar ground should see her in a better light, she looks overpriced. The Bear Can Fly looks her biggest danger, her best form so far coming on the softest ground she has faced. She is another who looks like the step up to this trip will bring about improvement. Waves and Born To Please are others with soft ground form who need each way consideration.

1 FASTNET SPIN – Winless in the last year but conditions are no concern for her. She was runner-up the only other time she has run at this track, a little surprising she has only made one visit given the volume of runners trainer David Evans has at the track. She is just one pound above her last winning mark so is well enough treated to go close but the Evans yard are not in great form at present.

2 WAVES – Broke her duck over this trip on soft ground at Bath in May, unable to back that up in three runs since. This is the first time she has had this much cut in the ground since she scored so perhaps the return to a softer surface can see her back to something like her best. She was impressive on that occasion, with a seven pound rise not enough to stop her if she can find that form again.

3 THE BEAR CAN FLY – Has had just three runs for a mark, the best of which came on the softest ground she has faced. That came over seven furlongs, coming home strongly to suggest that the step up to a mile will see her improve once more. One of the lightest raced in the line-up, she is open to plenty more progression which should see her right in the mix.

4 BOIS D’EBENE – Didn’t show much for Roger Charlton, regressing badly on her second start for her current yard. She stays this trip well and has performed with credit the twice she has run on soft ground but that run last time out means that she can only be watched on this occasion.

5 MOOROVERTHEBRIDGE – Steadily progressive through her three runs for a mark, she steps up in trip and onto softer ground for her handicap debut. Her full brother stayed this trip well enough but on her breeding this ground has to be a significant doubt so she is easily enough passed over for now on a stiff enough starting mark.

6 EVERDINA – All four starts so far have come on artificial surfaces, she was a late withdrawal last time out after getting upset in the stalls. She doesn’t look well treated on the form that she has in the book so far but her pedigree suggests that a soft surface will suit her now that she switches her attention to the turf.

7 COOPERESS – Just a single win to her credit from twenty-two starts, her best run so far this season coming on similarly soft ground to this at Chepstow. The step back up to a mile is interesting based on that run as she was staying on with purpose from the back of the field. She is five pounds out the weights but won off a pound lower in the past so that isn’t a massive concern with a new yard possibly what she needs to spark her back into life at a big price.

8 IMPERIAL LINK – Trip and ground are both in her favour but she is another who is having to run from five pounds out the handicap. Gabriele Malune takes seven pounds off her back which gives her a little outside squeak on the best of her form but others hold more pressing claims to victory.

9 SAXONY – Beaten just two rivals in three starts so far in 2017, she is eight pounds out the weights so it would be a huge shock if she were able to get anywhere close to the principals in this.

10 MISTRESS VIZ – Seven race maiden, she was withdrawn on soft ground at Bath in August. She has run with credit on good to soft, notably last season in a maiden at Ayr but with conditions softer here than on that occasion, she is going to have to up her game considerably.

11 ASSERTOR – Best effort came over this course and distance in her final maiden with the hood fitted for the first time. It was missing when she was last seen when a little below that level so it’s no surprise to see it back on now. She is unproven on soft ground with the suspicion being that the way she takes a strong grip, a mile on soft ground will stretch her stamina to breaking point.

12 BORN TO PLEASE – Belatedly broke her duck at the twelfth time of asking when landing a Sandown handicap over this trip on good to soft ground. Her best runs have come with plenty of cut so it’s no surprise than good to firm ground at Brighton last time was not to her liking over ten furlongs. This should suit her much better, holding an each way chance if she can settle a little better in the early exchanges.
