3.10pm Epsom Tips & Betting Preview 29/08/2017

A field of nine go to post for the third race of the day at Epsom on Tuesday, a six furlong handicap, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Coronation Day won her latest start in very good style and she should be going close with Martin Harley in such brilliant form. She does however come up against a very well handicapped REPUTATION, who is a course and distance winner at the boil. He was only one pound lower when winning over course and distance in June and his latest run in the Silver Trophy at Ripon is best ignored as he was in the disadvantaged group. Off two pounds lower he should be very tough to beat here with conditions to suit, as course experience is vital here at Epsom.

1 CORONATION DAY – Returned to winning ways on his latest start when winning a six furlong handicap at Brighton, winning easily and he’s been raised seven pounds as a result. He is back up in class but he’s clearly in good heart and the James Tate yard remain in great form. He has conditions to suit and Martin Harley takes the ride, who has a 28% strike-rate from his last thirty-nine rides so he should be going close here.

2 REPUTATION – Course and distance winner for John Quinn off a one pound lower mark and he was better than the best result suggested in the Ripon Silver Trophy on his latest start. He finished eleventh, finishing third in the far side group that was disadvantaged. He’s now two pounds lower here and he remains well weighted at present for a yard that is in great form. Jason Hart continues to bang in the winners and with conditions to suit, a big run looks inbound.

3 HUNTSMANS CLOSE – Last win came way back in June 2015 and he’s now winless from eleven starts for the Robert Cowell yard. He has placed on his last two runs, last seen at Yarmouth where he was third, but he was beaten a fair way. He is one pound lower here but more is needed under Robert Winston and he’s likely placed at best with how tough he finds winning.

4 HIGHLAND ACCLAIM – Another course and distance winner, with that victory coming three starts ago off a two pound lower mark, showing a good attitude to brush off the late challenge of Huntsmans Close. He was raised four pounds as a result and competed in two Class 3 events that were tougher than this, with a poor draw to blame for his latest defeat at Doncaster. He is more than capable of this mark for the in form David O’Meara team and should be on the premises from Stall 7.

5 HANDYTALK – Running well in the main this season, winning at Bath three starts ago and he backed that up with a solid second at this venue over the seven against an in form rival. He had excuses when only fifth at Windsor on his latest start and a bounce back would be no surprise. However, he is very high in the weights at present and there is no doubt that improvement is needed here. Each way claims under the in form Oisin Murphy but he’s likely vulnerable for win purposes.

6 POET’S SOCIETY – Highly tried three year old for Mark Johnston who did best of those who raced down the middle at Newmarket on his latest start. He now drops in class which is positive and he’s now only a pound above his last winning mark. He likes small fields as he can try to dominate from the front as he’ll likely do so today with only six opponents standing in his way. He is drawn well to attack and should be going close here.

7 SCOFFLAW – The Richard Fahey yard has won this race four times in the past seven years and this son of Foxwedge has been running well this season. He was third at Thirsk on his penultimate outing when up against some tough competition and he again ran with credit when fourth at Leicester two weeks ago, coming home strongly late on. Poet’s Society should ensure this will be a truly run race which boosts his chances and he has three pounds off his back thanks to Adam McNamara’s claim.
