2.45pm Chepstow Tips & Betting Preview 19/09/2017

A field of nine go to post for the third race of the day at Chepstow on Tuesday, a six furlong Nursery Handicap. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This looks for the taking of Mark Johnston’s W G GRACE, who made most at Kempton two starts ago before posting another good effort when fourth at Lingfield off today’s mark two weeks ago. He should be granted a soft lead in this contest and can punish his rivals from the front, with this racing looking easier than his latest assignment on Nursery debut at Lingfield. The cut in the ground will be no concern and with Franny Norton back in the saddle, he can steer this horse to another victory.

1 BROCKEY RISE – First time visor worked wonders at Thirsk three starts ago when he scored in great fashion, though he’s been well beaten in two runs since. His previous runs before that victory were nowhere near that standard so the form has to be questioned and the fact he’s still seen pounds above his last winning mark us another dubious point. Katherine Glenister takes off seven pounds but he’s booked for a struggle.

2 DIAMOND DOUGAL – Broke his maiden at the fifth attempt at Brighton earlier this month, winning under hands and heels though that cannot be considered the strongest of races. Raised six pounds he finished second at Carlisle on his latest start, beaten by four lengths and he looks vulnerable off the same mark for Mick Channon with the ground as it is. Dane O’Neill is a good booking, but there are likely to be other days.

3 MOTOWN MICK – Showed ability in his first two runs for Richard Hannon, though he took a backwards step when fourth at Windsor on his latest start at this distance. That race however revolved around a very useful type and market support would be interesting on his Nursery debut for top connections. He’s an each way player with conditions fine, but it’s not hard to see him find at least a few of these too good at this distance.

4 PRINCESS LYLA – Won two of her three starts in Nurseries for Richard Hughes, pulling far too hard when attempting to gain a hat-trick at Brighton on her latest start. She remains on the same mark and it would be no surprise to see her resume her progress now if settling better, though the lack of pace in this race would be of some concern. Connections are in form and conditions are fine, but she’s risky now despite holding leading claims.

5 BHINDI – Finished second on two of her first three starts for Eve Johnson Houghton which gives her claims, but her Nursery debut at Goodwood was less than convincing. She faded tamely when asked for an effort and although this is an easier race, she needs improvement if she’s to feature here. That is entirely possible for in form connections and she will handle the softer ground, so she is an each way contender at her best.

6 W G GRACE – Won on Nursery debut at Kempton when making most and he was far from disgraced in fourth at Lingfield two weeks ago in a similar race to this. There is a distinct lack of pace in the race and he should be allowed to dictate his own fractions out in front, which makes him hugely dangerous. He handles softer ground and with Johnson’s runners in great form at present, he can gain his second career victory.

7 SWISSAL – Showed lots to work with when sixth on debut at Windsor in June, but he’s gone backwards in two runs since for David Dennis. His effort at the same venue as his debut was short lived as he weakened tamely in the final furlong and he needs to bounce back in a big way on Nursery debut off a mark of 65, which isn’t particularly generous. Conditions are an unknown and he’s best watched here.

8 COMSELLE – Has shown flickers of ability in her four runs thus far, but she’s been well held on all her starts and she needs a jolt of improvement to be featuring here. Her best effort came on her second start when fourth at Sandown in softer ground, shaping as though she could improve for the six furlong distance. She again passed beaten horses on Nursery debut and her stamina for six is less than guaranteed, so she can only be watched again.

9 SARIA – Showed minor ability on three runs for Daniel Loughnane and her debut for the Tony Carroll yard yielded a backwards step, well held in a very weak Nursery at Kempton two weeks ago. She’s now down two pounds in the handicap but can only be watched once again as her rivals have shown far more.
