IN SUMMARY: Arthur’s Gift ran well on his handicap debut over course and distance in October and with his rider off-setting the rise in the weights, he shouldn’t be far away. The selection is FINULA, who was in the process of running a career best when unseating his rider at Warwick in May. He won on his seasonal debut twelve months ago and with his current mark more than fair, he can gain a second career victory.

HADFIELD – Won off this mark at Carlisle in October 2015 and he’s been very lightly raced since, below form on his return to action this season on the flat. He’ll be sharper for that though and he hit the frame off only one pound lower over hurdles in April. Each way contender.

DEGOOCH – Eight year old for Johnny Farrelly who was caught out by a trip that was far shorter of his optimum at Wetherby in October. He now returns to his best trip and his hurdling mark is nine pounds lower, so he couldn’t be discounted with any confidence now he’s down in grade.

FINULA – Showed some promise in his first few runs for Brendan Powell and was about to run a career best when unseating the rider from the lead at Warwick in May. He goes well fresh and should see out this trip fine, so he should run a very big race.

ARTHUR’S GIFT – Second on handicap debut at Worcester on his second start this season, beaten two lengths but he has gone up six pounds as a consequence. Should be more to come from him though and his rider off-sets the new mark, so he’s an each way player.

CRAIG STAR – Consistent sort for Donald McCain who was still in there swinging when unseating his rider at two out on his latest start at Kelso. He’s on the same mark here and now goes back up in trip, which gives him claims. The concern though would be the ground, as his best runs have come on truly ‘good’ ground.

STONEMADFORSPEED – Form figures of 333113 in 2017 for Roger Teal, losing a shoe on his latest start at Uttoxeter when last seen. Mistakes were his downfall that day and he should be happier back down in distance. That said, this current mark does demand further improvement.

PURPLE ‘N GOLD – Only won two starts since 2016 rolled around and he’s had plenty of chances, running one of his better races when last seen at Taunton. He’s far from guaranteed to back that up though and others are readily preferred.

POP ROCKSTAR – Only seven runs under his belt but he’s still a maiden for Jonjo O’Neill, finding two miles far too sharp on his return at Bangor in October. That said, he still needs more to be winning his first race and you’ll find much better options in the field.

BOUND HILL – Front-runner who tends to be too head-strong in his races, pulling his chance away at Kempton on his latest start. He is entitled to need this run (pulled-up on seasonal debut last year) and he’s best watched here.

MY LAD PERCY – Returns today for 753 day break here for Martin Keighley which is an immediate concern and despite him returning on such a dangerous mark, it’s hard to envisage him winning this after such a long break, as he’ll need to be at his best.

WAY OF THE WORLD – Heavy ground horse who has been very poor on his last two runs for Sheila Lewis, tailed off and pulled up in subsequent starts. Hard to envisage him taking this highly competitive event.
