.50pm Redcar Tips & Betting Preview 19/09/2017

A field of eleven go to post for the first race of the day at Redcar on Tuesday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Placebo Effect is used to the winning feeling and should be in the hunt, but he does look vulnerable to an improver and preference is for DARK LIBERTY. Simon Crisford’s only runner at Redcar today has had three runs and only weakened out of things late on at Nottingham on his latest start over the extended mile. A drop back to this distance looks ideal and with a mark of 71 on Nursery debut far from harsh, he can gain his first career victory.

BYRON’S CHOICE – Won on his second start at Carlisle over the six furlong trip and he was sent off favourite for his nursery debut, finishing a running on third. He now makes his second attempt at the seven furlong trip and he’s worth a shot at it, as his first attempt came in a strong maiden at Newcastle. He is one pound lower than his opening nursery mark and looks sure to play a key role under Paul Mulrennan.

SUPER MAJOR – Has raced only on good ground thus far in his career, showing a huge amount of improvement the last twice in better conditions. He was second at Thirsk in July before a close fourth at Catterick in a competitive Nursery handicap, keeping on at the one pace over the six furlong trip. He’s worth a go at the seven furlong distance as his pedigree suggests he may just stay, but softer ground isn’t deal and he should find at least one of these too good today.

DARK LIBERTY – Only runner on the card for Simon Crisford and this daughter of Dark Angel makes her Nursery debut today for the Newmarket trainer. She showed marked improvement on her final novice/maiden start to finish fourth at Nottingham, only weakening out of things deep inside the final furlong of the extended mile contest. On that evidence, a drop back to the seven furlongs will be ideal and an opening mark of 71 on Nursery debut is far from harsh, ss he can take a first career victory.

REINBEAU PRINCE – Richard Fahey inmate who is winless after five runs, running his best race on Nursery debut when beaten half a length at Thirsk over the six furlong distance. He was well beaten subsequently at Beverley when upped to the seven furlong distance, though he didn’t have the best of passages on that occasion. Nevertheless, others arrive here with far more interesting profiles and he could only be given place claims with question marks over his stamina.

PLACEBO EFFECT – Three wins from nine starts for this son of Lilbourne Lad, though two of those wins were in selling company and the third in a Class 6 Nursery. He ran in Class 2 company on his latest start where he was far from disgraced off the basement weight to finish third, though was well held on that occasion. A repeat of that performance back in this grade would see him with strong each way claims, though he does look vulnerable for an improver.

SORORITY – Filly for Mark Johnston who was second on Nursery debut at Musselburgh in August, only headed in the last 50 yards but he failed to back that up when dropping away tamely at Catterick on his latest start (behind Super Major). That said, he did have competition for the lead which he won’t have appreciated and the six furlong trip perhaps wasn’t ideal either. Runners from this stable tend to bounce back without warning and he’s dangerous to discount under Joe Fanning, who is a master from front.

JACKONTHEROCKS – Won a maiden at Ayr on his second start for Michael Dods but it’s been far from plain sailing since, well beaten in three subsequent races. He was last seen over the mile at Thirsk in softer ground, always in the rear and never threatening at any stage. He’s now three pounds lower in the handicap but that does little to tempt and he’s likely to find this tough once again.

EMERALD ROCKET – Only three runs for this Karl Burke inmate who produced his best effort on his second start, finishing third at Thirsk over the six furlong distance. His subsequently fourth at Redcar was no disgrace but he does need to find improvement for this step up in trip to feature here under PJ McDonald. Softer ground is a big question mark and others do have sounder claims on the face of it.

SHOW PRINCESS – Daughter of Showcasing for the bang in form Mick Appleby yard, improving with each run and producing her best effort when fourth at Redcar in a Novice race. She kept on well that day when getting the message too late, with a mark of 63 on Nursery debut far from harsh with further improvement likely. She gets her softer ground and with Josie Gordon taking over the ride, she looks sure to play a role.

MOUNTAIN APPROACH – Only effort of note came on her third start for Richard Fahey, allowed to dictate his own pace at Catterick before dropping away when headed. He was again well held on his Nursery debut at Musselburgh three weeks ago and although this return to softer ground will suit, he’s not shown enough to suggest he can win a race of this nature just yet. He couldn’t be entirely discounted for the placings, but he’s vulnerable for win purposes.

GRAPHITE GIRL – Has shown very little in three sprint handicaps for Tim Easterby, finishing last of eight at Carlise on her latest start when struggling from an early stage. She now goes handicapping off a basement mark, upped to the seven furlong distance which does make her interesting, but you’d need a big leap of faith to be backing her with how little she’s shown in her maiden starts.
