Leg 1 – BURGONET (6/4) Mark Johnston’s filly was chasing a hat-trick following narrow wins at Newmarket and Leicester, as it turned out the result at Salisbury was no different. She took it up after a furlong and when her rivals loomed up to challenge a couple of furlongs from home she just didn’t want to relinquish her lead. Finding plenty for pressure under Franny Norton, Burgonet was so game and held off the late charge of Fabulous Red to gain a brave victory.
Leg 2 – MUTAFANI (4/7) One of our strongest tips of the day came in the shape of Simon Crisford’s colt at Thirsk, heavily backed into 2/7 favourite it would have been extremely disappointing if he hadn’t done the business, but he duly obliged. Silvestre De Sousa kept in very simple aboard the odds on shot, driving him into an early lead and when asked for maximum effort he put clear daylight between himself and his rivals for an easy 4-length win.
Leg 3 – ATLANTIC STORM (13/8) The opening contest of our sponsored meeting at Southwell produced the first of 3 winners on the card for Dan Skelton. Patiently ridden by his brother Harry, Atlantic Storm eased his way through the field and took the lead approaching the second last before a quick leap at the final flight sealed the deal.
Leg 4 – TOO MANY DIAMONDS (6/4) Coming into this race in great heart following a pair of course and distances successes, Too Many Diamonds made no mistake in bringing up his hat-trick. He travelled smoothly into the race and was produced to lead before the penultimate fence, after a massive leap at the least he was driven out by Harry Skelton to hold off the rallying Copper West to land our 24/1 Acca.
