Having developed an interest in racing whilst in college some years ago, James has worked in many areas of the industry, including a stint hiding his face on radio! From 2008 until 2017, he ran a successful tipping service and has had shares in numerous horses including the wonderful Fast Shot. Unsurprisingly given some of the horses he has bought shares in, his punting passions lie in sprint handicaps on both the turf and All-Weather surfaces!

Racing tipster James Boyle has picked out two selections for Thursday’s card at York.

3:00pm York – Baltic Baron – 1pt win @ 9/1

BALTIC BARON is yet to get off the mark in Britain since moving to David O’Meara’s yard but four of his five runs have been really good and a gelding operation in early July seems to have brought him on the last twice. Most recently, he finished fifth in the ultra-competitive Golden Mile at Goodwood and as is so often the case around there, luck in-running was not forthcoming – if it was, he would have finished a lot closer to the winner. The return to a more conventional track is in his favour (went well here four weeks ago under a massive weight) and with the visor retained, he looks to be a major player again.

4:50pm York – Chaleur – 1pt win @ 10/1

Another to catch the eye at Goodwood was CHALEUR and Ralph Beckett’s 3-year-old filly looked one to follow when flashing home in the mile handicap on the opening day. That was despite not appearing completely at ease on the unique track and having what was her first run at the longer trip. On the face of it, you could claim she improved for the distance but on last season’s evidence she doesn’t lack for speed and a proper test at 7f shouldn’t be an issue at all. I think she could end up being a pattern-class performer and with just two runs in 2019 so far, we might see her nearing the peak of her powers.
