Big Races: The Group 3 Grand Prix de Vichy-Auvergne, run over a distance of 2,000 meters (roughly 1m 2f), is the track’s most well-known race and has been won by jockey Christophe Soumillon no less than five times!

Who are the best trainers and jockeys to bet on at Vichy?

2019 was a fantastic year for trainer Christophe Escuder, who boasted 16 winners and 24 places from 69 runners at Vichy. It’s clear that all of his runners are worth keeping a close eye on in 2020 as well and the same can be said for J P Gauvin, who has been amongst the winners since racing in France restarted. The yard landed 8 wins here last term, a further 23 runners placing, and could be Escuder’s biggest threat in the top trainer stakes once again.

On the jockey’s leaderboard last season, multiple Group 1 winning rider Maxime Guyon came out on top with 14 winners from just 44 rides and in terms of competition, it wasn’t even close. He was 9 wins clear of his nearest rival and it’s clear that trainers with a live runner around Vichy can’t do any better than book Guyon, so keep an eye on whatever he rides. Marie Velon is another to watch, as whilst she only had 5 winners last term, a further 27 placed and that was from just 56 rides in total. With a bit more luck this year, she should be adding to that tally.
