John McConnell’s Additional Time saw the trip out well to win a Sligo maiden hurdle impressively last time out and connections have wasted no time in sending him over fences. The seven-year-old is also a point-to-point winner and should therefore take well to fences.
Predators Gold was a smart novice hurdler and was very competitive at Grade 1 level, finishing second twice. He would have been entitled to need the run badly at Navan last month but he produced a smart performance to win well. Significant improvement is anticipated with that in mind and he should prove hard to beat.
The lightly raced Hakensack has taken big strides forward in his last couple of starts and he was beaten by less than a length when third at Cork last month. Second at Limerick after that, he looks well up to getting off the mark soon and this is his first start over fences.
Gringo d’Aubrelle struggled last season, upon his return from a lengthy absence, but his impressive win over hurdles at Navan last time out suggests he’s back to his best. Gordon Elliott’s gelding has a significantly lower chase mark and is well set to take full advantage.
Willie Mullins has a terrific record in this race and Sober is set to make it five-in-a-row for the master trainer. He’s very classy on the Flat and was last seen winning the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot. Winning over hurdles at Killarney in May, there’s more to come in this sphere.
Limerick bumper winner I Started A Joke has bumped into some smart sorts in his three starts over hurdles so far and was a respectable fourth at Limerick over Christmas. This is his best opportunity over timber so far and he gets the nod with that in mind.
Plunkett Street has improved significantly since going handicapping and produced a dominant performance to score by five lengths at Thurles in November. It’s hard to argue with a 7lb rise and he’s one to keep on side for the time being.

Located in County Kildare in Ireland, Punchestown is one of the countries premier National Hunt tracks. With a racing season from October through to June, it hosts 14 Grade 1 races throughout the year and attracts the best of the best jump horses both from Ireland and the UK. It also has the unique ‘Banks’ track for Cross Country races, the only one of it’s kind in Ireland. Course: It is a right-handed, undulating track where the hurdles circuit is a mile and six furlongs while the chase version is two miles. It’s a fair track so we don’t have to worry about whether our tips need to be ridden a particular way.
Feature Races: We have Punchestown tips for all the major races at Punchestown, including for the five-day festival in April, which is showered in quality. The Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle in January is always a race to watch closely. The Morgiana Hurdle in November is a key trial for the Cheltenham Festival with Hurricane Fly, Nichols Canyon and Faugheen on the role of honour. Lastly, the John Durkan in December has been used as a stepping stone by Don Cossack, Djakadam and Sizing John in the past.
The Punchestown festival is the grand finale to the Irish jumps season with top class horses, trainers and jockeys ascending on County Kildare.
