Newcastle (AW) Betting Tips

Monarch’s Gold won two of his three starts in novice company as a two-year-old last term and was second off this mark in a Class 2 event at Southwell last month. A similar effort should put him in the mix but there’s scope for improvement in handicap company.

Stateira remains relatively lightly raced in handicaps and Andrew Balding’s filly has won two of her last three starts by at least four lengths. She’s been put up 10lb for her latest success but could still be ahead of the handicapper.

The Lost King was well beaten at Royal Ascot last summer but returned in fine form on the all-weather over the winter. A comfortable winner of a Class 2 event at Wolverhampton last month, he’s been put up 5lb for that but is worth keeping on side for the time being.

Marshman brings a high level of form to the table and was denied by less than a length when third in a Listed contest last time. A fair third off a 5lb higher mark in a course and distance handicap last year, he should be more than capable of winning here on that evidence.

Regal Ulixes won a decent race at Lingfield with plenty in hand on his penultimate start and was given far too much to do over an inadequate trip at Wolverhampton last month. The return to 1m2f will suit and Oisin Murphy comes in for the ride.

Cesarewitch winner Beylerbeyi has been performing admirably over inadequate trips over the winter and the step back up in trip will make a big difference. Ian Williams’ gelding continues to rise up the handicap but may well have another win in him.
