Tips for Newcastle Races
Situated at Gosforth Park near Newcastle upon Tyne, the flat course used to be turf but was transformed into an All-Weather track in 2016 and hosted it’s first fixture on the 17th May of that year.
Surface: Similar to Wolverhampton, Newcastle has a Tapeta surface and experience on it is a plus so we consider this when selecting our tips.
Course: It’s the only All-Weather venue in the country with a straight mile and combining that with it’s width, it is very much a galloping track that takes plenty of getting. Generally it’s very fair with regards to track position and there is no harm in coming from the back of the pack.
Draw Bias: A fair track with no great draw bias for our tips to consider, although in races over 1 mile 2 furlongs and further you don’t want to be caught too wide around the long, sweeping bend.
Feature Race: The Northumberland Plate (also popularly known as the ‘Pitmen’s Derby’) takes place in June each year and is one of the richest 2 mile handicaps in the world, with a £150,000 purse in 2018.
