Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 29th April 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

After landing the place part of the charity bet last week at big odds Nigel was buzzing when we spoke to him this week ahead of the last day of the jumps season. That means a day off (well, no runners) on Sunday before the National Hunt season start all over again on Monday…!

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this weekend the money will be on…..

3.35pm Sandown – Benbens each way at odds of 20/1!

“I though he ran one hell of a race last week when finishing third in the Scottish Grand national beaten less than three lengths and he looks even better at home since so I am happy to let him take his chance this afternoon. He won’t be that price today but it is a smaller field and he actually races off of a two pound lower mark this afternoon, and ought to prove difficult to keep out of the places at least.”

If Benbens wins or places, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday’s Other Runners:

The New One 4.10pm Sandown

“This will be his first try at anything further than two and a half miles but Sam insists it is what he needs these days, and it may be time to map out a different campaign for him – we shall see this afternoon but he is still in good heart at home and I’m hoping for huge, hopefully winning run this afternoon.”

Little Jon 5.20pm Sandown

“I’m sending him back over hurdles for the first time since April 2014, a run of nineteen races over the larger obstacles. I’m rather hoping something a bit different could well rejuvenate him and he is certainly well weighted in this sphere off a six pounds lower mark than when we last saw him at Ffos Las over fences . He has won off of close to a stone higher over fences so if he takes to the hurdles again he has to have a decent each way chance,”
