3.35 Sandown (Saturday)

Farceur Du Large (33/1, bet365) is all set to take his chance in this prestigious handicap chase over an extended 3m4f. Jamie Snowden’s nine-year-old has already won twice at the track this season and therefore has every chance of making it three.

This horse was previously trained in Ireland by Noel Meade and he managed to win twice over fences. Things didn’t quite go to plan after that but Snowden has done a good job of getting him back to his best. A career best will be required to win this but that’s certainly not out of the question and he’s entitled to run another big race.

He’s looking to complete a rather unique achievement of winning all three ‘Gold Cups’ at Sandown in a single season, having won the Military and Artillery Gold Cups here. The form of his victory here in February has since been franked by the second who went on to win its next start. You can’t knock that form and it certainly bodes well.

Pulling up in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter, 4m2f just appeared to stretch his stamina and the five-and-a-half-furlong shorter trip should be much more to his liking. It’s key to note that the handicapper has dropped him 1lb for that effort, which can only help his chances here.
