Yesterday’s big gamble won – today’s is smashed from 25-1 into 8-1 📉

The big gamble of the day landed on Tuesday as Point Audemer won at Limerick. Having been available at 14-1 the previous evening, he was backed in to 3-1 before the off and duly obliged. Off the back of that success for the punters, there’s another substantial gamble underway at Leicester on Wednesday. This time, the horse in question has been smashed into 8-1 from 25-1. 2.35 Leicester

Val Dancer is the subject of the gamble and the six-year-old gelding is already a winner over hurdles in three starts. It’s also worth noting that he wasn’t beaten far on his only start in a bumper, when second by a length-and-a-quarter. Starting out in an Irish point, he finished second on his sole start by a horse that has since been purchased for a six-figure sum.

Mel Rowley’s charge was perhaps a little disappointing at Doncaster last time out and will be looking to bounce back here. He finished fifth that day and was beaten by around 18 lengths. The third has since boosted the form of that race by winning earlier this week.

Victorious at Bangor on his penultimate start, he pulled clear at the finish to win by a cosy five-and-a-half lengths. There’s substance to the form too as the third won its next start and the horse that finished last put in a much improved effort to finish second subsequently. If Val Dancer can return to this level of form, there’s a solid chance that the gamble could come off.

Obviously the horse retains plenty of potential but handicaps are likely to be his cup of tea in the long term. This looks like a good opportunity however and he looks capable of picking up a race of this nature before moving on.
