Chester‘s significant draw bias is hard to get around and so it proved on Wednesday. We knew that it would be the case and picked out three horses with favourable low draws. These selections provided two winners and a 10/1 second, so we’re back with three more on Friday. There’s some each-way value to be had, as we’ve picked out a 9/1 shot in the Chester Cup. Two Tempting (4/1, bet365) won over course and distance in August and currently finds himself on a 1lb higher mark. A similar performance here would surely put him bang in the mix once again and he’s entitled to go close. Stall one is the perfect draw and positive tactics could work to his advantage. It was a decent enough effort at Newbury last time out and 1lb drop in the weights won’t go amiss.
The Foxes (11/8, bet365) is also drawn in stall one and he got the better of multiple Group 1 winner Dubai Honour in a Listed contest at Newcastle in November, with the next three horses home all winning since. He produced a good performance to finish fourth in the Hong Kong Cup and that form makes him very much the one to beat.
Hot Fuss (9/1, bet365) won easily over an extended two miles at Southwell in February and the handicapper has put him up 5lb since. Firmly in control that day, if the new trip suits, there could well be more to come from him. Tom Dascombe’s gelding was a respectable fourth at the Cheltenham Festival last time out and stall three is a handy draw.
