Galway Racecourse is a lovely track from a betting point of view and is located in the west of Ireland. In general you need a horse that likes to be up with the pace and also stays a bit further as it is a very stiff climb to the finish. I have picked out three horses that should go close at the venue on Tuesday including a couple owned by the shrewd JP McManus.
Ilikedwayurthinkin came back from a four month break to score in style at Ballinrobe last month, beating a good horse in Russian Diamond in the process. The seven-year-old son of Yeats won back to back handicap hurdles here at Galway in 2019 so has strong course form and he remains with potential over larger obstacles. He likes a bit of juice in the ground and has that here.
Birchdale is a pretty classy type and ran well on debut for Enda Bolger when third at Listowel last month, probably in need of the run. He is a former Grade 2 winner over hurdles when trained in Britain with Nicky Henderson and finished sixth in the Coral Cup back in March. Still just a seven-year-old, he could still have a big career ahead of him over fences and he has to be a leading player here in this company.
Bridge Native ran a brilliant race over this course and distance at the Galway Festival in July when fourth of 20 behind Abbey Magic off this mark, so a repeat run would give her every chance in an easier race. Booking of Gainford is a plus and he is great value for this 5lb claim.
