It’s a select day of racing on Sunday, with just the three meetings to get stuck into. Southwell and Carlisle host the jumps action, while Lingfield provides the flat flavour with an All-Weather card.
While delving through the action on Sunday, I stumbled across a very interesting statistic that caught my eye. It’s not often a leading rider will have just one ride at a venue, especially when it’s such a big price! I’ve found one at Southwell, and you can find all the details below.

One of Britain’s leading riders, Tom Scudamore is already enjoying a fine season. Winning the Ladbrokes Trophy mere weeks ago, he also enjoyed a fine two days at Cheltenham earlier this week.
Southwell is another place where Scudamore has found success this season. He’s ridden 21 horses at the venue, with six of them coming home in front. That 29% strike-rate has amassed a level-stakes profit of £61.00, which is a very healthy return!
He heads to Southwell for just one ride on Sunday and he’s set to be a big price for a top yard. Scudamore certainly won’t be heading to Southwell for the fun of it, so it’s worth paying close attention to his mount in the 3.00pm.
Scudamore’s Sole Chance
Hailing from the Colin Tizzard yard, LANSPARK was sent off at 25/1 for his debut at Uttoxeter last month. He showed plenty of ability, making eye-catching headway off the turn and heading to the third-last. He ultimately didn’t go through with that effort, but a lack of race fitness could certainly account for that.
He’s entitled to take a big step forward from that effort given it was his debut. This looks to be an above-average novices’ hurdle, but he receives weight from the top-two in the market. That will certainly be a help and the testing conditions should suit too, given both his breeding and running style.
Currently a 16/1 shot, there’s plenty to like about his chances at such a tempting price.
