Thyme Hill V Paisley Park Part 2 – Who can win the Long Walk/Stayers’ Hurdle Double?

The staying division over hurdles has been lacking a true star since Big Buck’s. There have been eight different winners in the eight years since Paul Nicholls’ star won his fourth title. Paisley Park won the contest in 2019 while Thyme Hill has announced himself to the stage this season.

The guys at William Hill have a pair of specials on their site for this weekend and Cheltenham. Can either Paisley Park or Thyme Hill win both the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday and the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March?

Their #yourodds specials can be found on their site but how hard is it to pick a side? We look at the two contenders below, find out who we think wins on our ITV Racing Tips.

Paisley Park – 10/1 for the double with #yourodds

Did the double in the 2018/19 season, beating West Approach at Ascot and then Sam Spinner into second at Cheltenham. He missed this race last season after a winning return in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury, winning the Cleeve on his way back to the Festival.

A fair way below his best in March, he was subsequently found to have an irregular heartbeat. Beaten by Thyme Hill on his return to action in a race that turned into a sprint up the straight. That won’t have suited him and first time up in hindsight was probably the most likely time to get him turned over.

Three pounds better off on Saturday for a length and a half with Thyme Hill, can the former champion gain his revenge? 10/1 would have looked huge last season but does he still have the same ability?

Thyme Hill – 12/1 for the double with #yourodds

Rapidly progressive in his first season over hurdles, he closed out with a close fourth in the Albert Bartlett. He was unlucky that day, getting no room on the run to the last before hitting the hill hard to only be beaten a length and a half.

He’s only had eight starts in his life so his supporters will rightly believe that we are yet to see the best of him. He got the better of Paisley Park at Newbury but arguably that race will have suited his younger legs more. There should be more to come from him and he has to rank as a hugely exciting prospect in the staying division. 12/1 to win both races will appeal to many.
