Thurles Gamble: Top weight quickly halves in price in competitive handicap 📉

For the third day in a row, we have ITV action! After a scintillating day at Ascot yesterday, Lingfield and Thurles take over, with the former’s Winter Million series continuing. There’s a pair of Grade 2 races at Thurles too, with the return of Allaho in the Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase being Sunday’s main attraction.

We’ll have horse racing tips for all the racing, but one horse has caught the eye this morning. Having drifted out to 20-1 overnight, the money has come pouring in this morning, with the Seamus Spillane-runner halving in price. We’ve taken a look at this chances and you can find our analysis on this interesting runner below.

2.05 Thurles – Horse & Jockey Handicap Hurdle

The runner in question is Goulane Chosen, who has been absent since the summer of 2021. The lack of a recent run shouldn’t be a concern, however, as he’s performed well fresh on multiple occasions, including a win and several places. Last year was productive for him, winning on a pair of occasions, latterly at Sligo in July.

Raised seven pounds for that comfortable success, he was sent off at 50-1 for a highly competitive Galway handicap when last seen. He acquitted himself extremely well to finish fourth doing comfortably best of those who helped set a strong early pace. As a result, it’s very easy to upgrade that effort.

He can race off the same mark today, which is an obvious plus, and this race is certainly easier, as shown by the fact he’s top weight. He’ll be ridden by Denis O’Regan, who is a master of these big-field handicaps, and that could prove crucial to his chances. Despite halving in price, he remains a strong each-way bet at present.
