Three horses that will relish the mud at Wetherby form 579-1 Monday accumulator 🌧️

Monday’s meeting at Wetherby should be an interesting one as the going is currently heavy. Therefore it could be prudent to look for horses with proven form on heavy ground. We’ve picked out three horses who have been successful in heavy conditions before and could be better prepared to deal with the gruelling ground.

2.20 Wetherby

Choix Des Armes has had just three starts on heavy ground and has won and finished third. He has also dropped to a career-low mark of 82. This low weight should lessen the burden of having to get through the ground which is likely to lead to some slow motion finishes. His proven liking for these testing conditions should make the going much less difficult for him to endure than many of his rivals here.

3.30 Wetherby

Chti Balko’s last victory came back in 2020 on heavy ground at Haydock. That is a track which becomes truly gruelling when it becomes heavy. Any horse that can conquer those conditions can cope with testing conditions anywhere. This veteran gelding proves this with his record of four wins and four places in 11 starts on heavy ground. He is now on a mark which is 12lb lower than his last winning one. If he is to win again conditions look set fair to give him a good opportunity here.

4.05 Wetherby

Buster Valentine currently boasts a 100 per cent record in heavy ground. He scored on his only start on heavy in a maiden hurdle at Ayr back in 2018. He also has plenty of solid form on soft so he clearly loves plenty of give in underfoot conditions. His form so far this season has been very consistent having placed in all three starts off this mark of 124. As he has proven to be competitive off this mark it should just be a matter of finding the right race for him to get his head in front and given the favourable conditions it could be here.
