This Mickey Bowen Market Rasen double is Monday’s play of the day

Mickey Bowen has two winner from two runners at Market Rasen so far this season and that 100 per cent record is courtesy of Iron Heart and Letterston Lady, who provided him with a 6/1 double at the track’s last meeting. The same two horses are set to represent him at Market Rasen on Monday and are therefore worth keeping an eye on.

Iron Heart (11/8, bet365) was a very comfortable winner here over hurdles when last seen, going on to score by 11 lengths. Sean Bowen was also on board that day and it was obvious approaching the second-last that there was only going to be one winner.

Yet to win over fences, he has only had nine starts over the larger obstacles and he was only narrowly denied in a chase at Bangor in May 2024. Bowen’s gelding races off the very same mark here and he should be bang in the mix with that in mind.

3.25 Market Rasen

Letterston Lady (11/4, bet365) faces a slight step up in grade here but she looks ready for it. The daughter of Getaway remains lightly raced over hurdles and has a record of three wins from seven starts. There could be more to come with that in mind and you wouldn’t want to rule her out.

She beat a subsequent winner here by a neck last time out and a 4lb rise seems pretty reasonable. It’s interesting that connections have dropped her in trip here, as she was staying on well over 2m7f that day. There’s a limit to how much more she can improve but is probably still ahead of the handicapper.
