Wicked was pretty average on debut but showed plenty when fifth over a mile at Southwell in April. The son of Kingman bumped into a very smart winner at Newmarket after that but still ran well to finish second and handicaps could facilitate a significant amount of improvement.

Trawlerman got the better of star stayer Kyprios in the 2023 Long Distance Cup and found only him too good in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last June. That form makes him very much the one to beat in this much easier race and he should improve significantly from his seasonal debut in Dubai.

Ombudsman made his belated debut in a Newmarket novice in June and he produced a very professional performance to get off the mark nicely. He progressed through the ranks after that and ended the season with a Group 3 win. Ryan Moore is on board and he remains unbeaten in four starts.

Nebras is another lightly raced sort and he was thrown in the deep end after winning his maiden last season. Things didn’t go to plan in the Futurity Trophy but he was second over 1m2f in a Listed contest at Newmarket this season and may well appreciate the return to a mile here.
