‘They won’t get stuck in the mud’ – Three heavy ground horses to follow at Gowran

Gowran Park

2024 has been a tough year for Gowran and the relentless wet weather has forced them to cancel a number of meetings. They’re finally set to host their first Flat fixture of the year on Tuesday however and the ground is likely to be heavy. With this in mind, we’ve picked out three horses that are proven on heavy ground and won’t get stuck in the mud. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.35 Gowran

Norwalk Havoc has had two starts to date and he improved considerably on his debut effort to win his maiden in impressive style on heavy ground at Leopardstown earlier this month. The drop back to 7f shouldn’t be a problem and he should cope well with the conditions once again.

5.45 Gowran

Kisiyra had three starts as a juvenile and has improved with every one, which certainly bodes well for her three-year-old campaign. Yet to get off the mark, she was a good second to a useful Aidan O’Brien filly on heavy ground here back in October. There should be plenty of improvement to come now handicapping and the step up in trip could also help. An opening handicap mark of 79 certainly looks workable and she can definitely build from here.

6.15 Gowran

Duke Of Leggagh has won two of his five starts on heavy ground and they came by a combined distance of over 12 lengths. This includes a seven-length demolition job at Navan in March 2023 which was very impressive indeed. He also finished second to Paddington on heavy ground before that and we all know what he went on to do. A distant third over 1m2f at Leopardstown last time out, he’ll need to improve on that effort but he has been dropped 1lb subsequently.
