It’s been pretty dry across the country over the last week and that means many tracks are watering to maintain good to firm ground. This applies to Brighton and Newbury and both courses have meetings on Tuesday. Some horses love fast ground so we’ve picked out four runners who will thrive in the conditions. Laser Focus has only had five starts on turf to date and his only disappointing effort came on heavy ground. James Owen’s six-year-old is unbeaten in two starts on good to firm and that bodes very well for his chances here. He was beaten by a head off a 3lb lower mark when last seen and should go close once again.
Poetic Force is undoubtedly a better horse on the all-weather but his five turf victories have all come on good to firm. The 10-year-old’s last turf win came over course and distance off a 1lb higher mark back in August and that form gives him every chance if reproducing a similar effort here.
Gatwick Kitten hasn’t been in the best of form for a while but his record on good to firm ground is solid. Winning three times in seven starts on good to firm, Ed Dunlop’s gelding is certainly capable of winning this. Three of his five wins have come at Brighton and Hollie Doyle is on board here.
Hurt You Never has made the frame in nine of her 12 starts on good to firm and that includes no fewer than six victories. Adrian Nicholls’ mare returned to winning ways at Ripon when last seen and has been put up 6lb as a result. She has a 100 per cent record at Newbury, winning this very race last year on her only start here and should be in the mix once again.
