‘The straight mile will take some getting’ – Soft ground horses at Doncaster

We have a cracking meeting at Doncaster Racecourse to look forward to on Saturday and it is a card where soft ground horses should thrive. 2.25 Doncaster

Look Back Smiling relishes the mud and although the son of Fast Company has a very patchy profile, if he is on a going day he will be bang in the mix. He was a game winner here when last seen winning over 7f in October on heavy ground. He’s only up 3lb for that which is fair, he gets a mile and he has gone well fresh so he ticks a lot of boxes for this.

3.00 Doncaster

Amo Racing’s Baradar should be another who will enjoy testing conditions in the Cammidge Trophy over 6f. Trained by George Boughey, the six-year-old finished third in the Lincoln on heavy ground last year, and was third in the Grade 1 Vertem Futurity here back in 2020 on soft. He could be the class act in the race on this sort of ground.

3.35 Doncaster

A winner of the Lincoln two years ago, Johan has generally raced on a decent surface, but he won the Golden Mile handicap at Goodwood last year on soft so there’s a good chance he might be absolutely fine on the ground. It will be no easy ask off his current mark but there has been nibbles of support for him all week and De Sousa is booked for the ride.
