‘The quicker the better’ – Four fast ground horses to watch at Windsor on Monday

Conditions at Windsor are currently described as good to firm ahead of their meeting on Monday evening. That’s not expected to change as the weather forecast isn’t predicting any rainfall. With this in mind, we’ve picked out four horses to watch that have won on good to firm before and will therefore have an advantage over their rivals. The quicker the ground is, the better their chances will be. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

6.45 Windsor

Trefor has only had six starts to date and his only start on good to firm resulted in victory in a course and distance novice back in August. He finished second to a smart handicapper at Newmarket in a better race at Newmarket in April and is currently on just a 2lb higher mark. Charles Hills’ three-year-old should be capable of getting his head in front here.

7.15 Windsor

Silver Gunn is a two-time course and distance winner who is also the only horse in the race to have won twice on good to firm. His last win came at Windsor in August and he’s back down to the same mark here, making him very dangerous. A return to winning ways may very well be on agenda.

7.45 Windsor

Gilbert looks very well handicapped on his best form and a big run is anticipated from the bottom weight. He’s had six runs on good to firm and has run his race more often not, winning over course and distance last summer. That victory came off his current mark of 46 and it’s difficult to envisage him not making the frame on that evidence.

8.45 Windsor

Grey Fox has won four times on good to firm and is therefore guaranteed to enjoy the quick ground here. The most recent of those came over course and distance off a 1lb lower mark in August 2022 and a repeat effort would surely be enough. A winner at Newbury when last seen, a 5lb rise shouldn’t prove to be too troublesome.
