‘The penny will drop soon’ – Liam’s 66/1 outsider of the day on Wednesday

There are plenty of runners across the day on Wednesday and this makes for some competitive betting. Lots of runners means lots of each-way opportunities and with that in mind, Liam Bramall has selected an outsider at a massive price that could outrun its odds on Wednesday. Running at Wincanton, the horse in question should build on his latest effort. You can also check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

5.05 Wincanton

Royal Regard has had six starts over hurdles thus far and only four of them have been in Britain. What could be key here is that he’s rather unexposed in handicap company. There wasn’t much to shout about on handicap debut over 2m3f at Fontwell last month but the signs were much more positive at Wincanton last time out.

Finishing fifth in an 11-runner field that day, the performance was probably slightly better than the bare result suggests. A 35-length defeat is indicative of slight improvement and he was unlucky on the day. He was hampered at the fourth flight and was fighting an uphill battle from then on. Still, he stuck to his task well enough and he can build on that performance.

It’s certainly good news that the handicapper responded by dropping him another 5lb in the weights, as that can only help his chances moving forward. The penny will drop sooner rather than later and he’ll be ready to win when it does. We’re yet to see the best of this horse and he’s lightly raced enough that it’s too early to write him off.

This longshot is available at substantial odds and if he can find some more improvement, he should be capable of outrunning his price.
