‘The bookies will be in tears’ – Willie Mullins Punchestown treble on Tuesday

Wille Mullins has some decent chances on opening day.

The Punchestown Festival kicks off on Tuesday and there are three Grade 1 races to look forward to. Willie Mullins is set to dominate once again, much to the disappointment of the bookmakers, and he could get the Festival off to a flyer.

He trains the favourites in all three Grade 1s so we’ve combined them into a tasty treble. This could be a popular bet and the bookies will be in tears if it lands. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Kopek Des Bordes remains unbeaten in three starts over hurdles so far and produced a jaw-dropping display to win at the Dublin Racing Festival. He was then a skinny price to follow up at Cheltenham and did so with little fuss. Mullins’ five-year-old appears to have scared off the other top two-mile novices and it’s likely that he’ll be far too good for these.

Ballyburn looked out of sorts when disappointing at the Cheltenham Festival but won a Grade 1 at Leopardstown well before that. He’d easily be the best horse in the race if at the top of his game. The son of Flemensfirth looked like a superstar in the making as a novice hurdler and he would be hard to beat if returning to that level.

Fact To File is probably a tad on the short side, given the fact that he’s not a two-miler. His jumping and high cruising speed are his main weapons, which will certainly come in handy though. Mullins’ eight-year-old dominated the Ryanair Chase last time and will want to make it a strong test. Probably the most talented horse in the race, he’s entitled to come out on top.
