‘The 16-1 looks huge’ – Is next year’s Supreme winner running at Limerick Sunday? 📅

The 2022 Cheltenham Festival might only be a few days in the past but it’s never too early to get involved next year. One at Limerick on Sunday caught the eye massively when winning on his debut and looks the ideal type to make up into a contender for the opening race of the 2023 meeting. He is currently best priced with bet365 for the Supreme and at this early stage, the 16-1 looks huge.

Mercurey could hardly have done things any easier on his debut at Gowran. Connections will surely have been tempted to send him to Cheltenham for the bumper this year but they decided against it. It’s a tough contest for a four-year-old so it looks the right call but it would’ve been easy to have pitched him in.

That patience with him this season can pay dividends for them next campaign. He has plenty of size about him, looking all over a jumper in the making. Given that frame, he is going to be the type who just keeps on improving as he matures. That debut win was hugely impressive visually given how keen he was.  It’s likely that is only going to be the tip of the iceberg though.

His dam was a winner in France and is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Molotof. She is also a half to smart handicapper Marracudja. It’s a solid line which further backs up the thought that he is going to make up into a top class performer. It’s almost a year to wait but he looks exactly the type to keep the ante-post fires burning bright.
