There are no fewer than 11 races from Pontefract and the Curragh live on ITV on Sunday, with some thoroughly competitive action on offer. The Curragh’s feature race is the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes and the Eclipse runner-up is the headline act there. We’re back with more outsiders to follow and a Pontefract stat. The useful A Boy Named Susie was last seen finishing second behind Constitution River in the Eclipse at Sandown last month and it’s noted that he drops a couple of grades here. With Aidan O’Brien’s star three-year-old not in the field, A Boy Named Susie is set for a return to winning ways.
Ballydoyle’s representative is Charles Fort and he makes his first start of the season. He is likely to need the run and has plenty to find on form. Omni Man is a fair handicapper but will probably need to find a bit more in order to win this and stablemate Cowardofthecounty needs to prove his stamina.
Jack Davison’s Rebel Ascendant won on debut at Gowran in April but is likely to struggle at this level on the evidence of his fourth at Roscommon the following month. It would be a massive shock if Donnacha O’Brien’s runner fails to get the job done at this sort of level.
William Haggas and Cieren Fallon have a 75 per cent strike-rate when combining at Pontefract and they join forces with two runners on Sunday. Darzah got the better of Luna Celeste at Newmarket on her penultimate start and is better than she showed at Nottingham when last seen.
High Degree finished second in a better race at Newmarket last month and the handicapper has left his mark alone, which means he should be bang in the mix once again.
Catching The Moon (50/1, bet365) showed a fair level of form as a juvenile and she followed up her novice success at Beverley by winning a Group 3 at Ayr in September. Her two efforts so far this season have been very underwhelming but she’s a massive price in comparison to her best form.
Mighty Danu (20/1, bet365) landed a Galway maiden on debut and the lightly raced filly has only had one previous start in handicap company. Jack Kearney takes 3lb off and the best is yet to come.
