Sunday’s highlights: Two for the tracker and a trainer with a perfect course record

It has been an excellent week of racing thus far, with Newmarket’s Craven Meeting, the Scottish Grand National and more Classic trials at Newbury. Sunday’s action closes out the week in style, especially with some Group action to look forward to at the Curragh.

Here we take a look at some of the more interesting things to note across the afternoon, including a preview of the Alleged Stakes at the Curragh and there’s also a trainer who has an unblemished record at the Irish track this year, with one representative on Sunday.

Don’t forget to watch both juvenile races at the Curragh either, as Aidan O’Brien is set to unleash a couple of debutants. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Race of the day: Alleged Stakes

The Curragh’s main event is the Group 3 Alleged Stakes and the Karl Burke-trained Royal Rhyme is likely to prove popular, despite being off for the best part of a year. Green Impact was a smart juvenile and he managed to win a Listed contest last season too.

Ger Lyons’ filly Red Letter won at this level last term and Aidan O’Brien’s Twain makes his belated reappearance, having not been seen since winning a French Group 1 as a juvenile. Impressive last time out winner Beset could be the way to go however.

She has a good record on soft or heavy ground and absolutely bolted up here over 1m4f on her final start of the last campaign.

Trainer with a 100% record at the Curragh in 2026

Patrick Flynn is 1/1 at the Curragh so far this season and he’s set to be represented by just one runner at the track on Sunday. Carrigans Grove runs in the 6f handicap at 3.00 and he was admirably consistent last season and managed to win three times.

Not only that, the gelding only finished outside of the first three on one occasion and may well have been feeling the effects of a long season on that occasion. He was a course and distance winner in August and was a narrow second on his only other run at the Curragh.

It’s therefore easy to make a strong case that he can run a big race here, especially as the five-year-old scored first time out in 2025.

Two for the tracker: Aidan O’Brien unleashes two debutant juveniles

The early season two-year-olds will be looking to book their places at Royal Ascot over the next couple of months and Aidan O’Brien mopped up in the juvenile races there last season. He’s set to run a couple of interesting debutants on Sunday and they’re worth keeping an eye on.

Carry The Flag was a €250,000 purchase at the sales and he is by Coolmore stallion No Nay Never, who has sired many smart Ballydoyle juveniles. Related to several winners, he should have plenty of pace and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he gets off the mark.

O’Brien’s second debutant is Great Barrier Reef in the 6f maiden later on in the card. Also by No Nay Never, his half-brother Mystery Power was a Group 2 winner at two. It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on here.
