Sunday’s angles: Another Joseph O’Brien raid, long distance travellers and a key stat

We were treated to some excellent racing at Royal Ascot this week but the fun doesn’t stop there and we have three more meetings to enjoy on Sunday. Joseph O’Brien had an awesome Royal Ascot and he sends a runner over to Pontefract for their feature Listed contest. Mickey Bowen is sending a couple of runners on a 590-mile round trip to Hexham and there’s a jockey at Brighton with a perfect record. Joseph O’Brien is back again

Joseph O’Brien’s team could hardly have asked for a better showing at Royal Ascot and their performance, particularly in the handicaps, was hugely impressive. The Irish trainer is sending a runner over for the Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes and the horse in question has to go under consideration.

Lemsairbat has only won once in her career but has placed plenty of times in Listed company and was runner-up in a Group 3 last summer. Second in two of her three starts so far this season, it would be no surprise if she was to make the frame once again and perhaps the return to 1m4f will suit.

Long journey alert!

It’s a 590-mile round trip from Mickey Bowen’s Welsh yard up to Hexham and his only other runner there so far this season was a winner. The fact that he sends two runners there on Sunday is therefore rather interesting so we’ve assessed their chances.

Getaway Vic won a bumper here in April 2025 and the son of Getaway has finished second in his last two hurdles starts. He should go well once again but Loman Lady looks like a serious danger.

Ostend was a fair second on stable debut in a Class 3 at Market Rasen last time out, despite being 1lb out of the handicap, and the front two were well clear of the rest. A similar performance may well be enough in this lower grade and Shane Fenelon continues to take 5lb off.

Murphy is the man at Brighton

Jockey Donagh Murphy is unbeaten at Brighton so far this season, with both of his rides coming out on top, and he’s set to take just one ride at the Sussex track on Sunday. Barnsnape Boy was a course and distance winner earlier this month and should be in the mix once again.
