3 soft ground outsiders for Royal Ascot on Friday

Soft ground was the order of the day on the third day of Royal Ascot on Thursday. The card was topped and tailed by 20/1 and 33/1 winners in big field handicap. It looks set for soft ground again tomorrow so let’s take a look at a few outsiders who may hit the frame at big prices on Friday afternoon. These aren’t our tips for the day, you can find our Royal Ascot Day 4 tips here.

1.15 – Band Practise

The opener had a big priced winner on Thursday and has the potential to go to an outsider again on Friday. Top weight for a filly might look a tough task on paper but she was not an early two-year-old, not making her debut until August. She improved on every start until a trip to the Breeders’ Cup and rattling fast ground. She won a Listed race on soft prior to that beating a couple of solid enough yardsticks for that level.

3.35 – Royal Lytham

Just a single run on soft ground so far in his career when a length third to Siskin in the Phoenix Stakes. This comes up quick enough off the back of his run in the Irish 2000 Guineas but he travelled as well as anything that day past the two furlong pole before fading. The drop back to six furlongs is in his favour so it’s a surprise to see him as big as he is.

4.40 – Indianapolis

It’s no surprise to see a market move for this horse on Thursday afternoon. He was an impressive winner at Leicester last season on heavy ground from just two pounds lower. That is the best RPR of his life, his second best coming when a course and distance winner last August. A wide draw is a niggling concern for one who likes to run up with the pace but his yard are ticking over nicely.
